It is also important to ask any business you are dealing with, if they have public liability insurance. This same rule applies within the entertainment industry, DJs should have public liability insurance to perform at any venue, and this will cover mishaps with equipment and the general area where the DJ equipment is setup.

MP3 Pirates

Lets face it, MP3s are so easy to obtain these days, you can get them from friends, off the internet or by ripping CDs. It is important that we all know our legal responsibilities, many DJs use MP3s which they have not legitimately purchased, these illegal MP3s are usually bad quality or different modified versions but most importantly illegal. These DJs are sometimes known as MP3 pirates in the DJ industry. They will start up a DJ business with 80% pirated music and undercut legitimate DJs. There are hefty penalties for music piracy in Australia and last thing you want is to be involved in anyway.

Legitimate Australian Business

Registration of a business name is compulsory and must be completed before the business starts trading. Some DJs trading in Australia do not have valid business names and ABNs, it is highly recommended that you deal with registered businesses otherwise you have no protection against scams and conman rip-offs.
